Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is a solution that stands out compared to many of its competitors. Some of its main advantages are that it is easy to use, has good integrations and is flexible.
Sasinath V., Project (Scaling) Consultant at a technology provider, says: "For me, the main strengths of Microsoft Dynamics NAV are that it iseasy to use and lightweight. These are your main victories. I've used other ERPs and their architecture was a bit more complex compared to the Microsoft Dynamics NAV architecture."
"The solutionsthe integrations and the interface are very good”,cites Alonso R., Services Director of the Kc ERP group.
Another PeerSpot reviewer, Kamesh G., vice president of information systems at a media company, shares what he likes most about the solution: "I found theflexibilitybe very valuable. It's very flexible and, at least for us, it's been effective. It's also very functional."

Very easy to scale and the new pricing model is much cheaper
Pros and cons
- "Each feature is valuable depending on where you deploy it. I've implemented it in 60 countries, in 86 different companies and groups, and each company has a different reason for wanting to use it. Each individual feature I've deployed has been successful, and, for some companies, where they did not use the functionality, it has been moved to external products or integrated into other applications."
- "Microsoft Dynamics NAV could do with some improvement in terms of exporting income statements and balance sheets. A feature currently exists, but it may only be the last three years. I spent some time trying to improve the part of the KPI that exports the data, which already calculates the subforms or subtotals but they couldn't split it into different dimensions. Now they managed to populate the separate table and you can export it but only for the last three years. So you can improve this solution by exporting the chart of accounts or the chart of accounts, where you can go beyond just three years with it."
What is our main use case?
Microsoft Dynamics NAV is used for sales, inventory purchases, manufacturing, fixed asset advancement, document integration and now there is also a service module. That solution is now called Business Central, but it's the same product.
I've implemented Microsoft Dynamics both in the cloud and on-premises, but the company I work for now has implemented it on-premises.
What is the most valuable?
All features are valuable depending on where you deploy them. I've implemented it in 60 countries, in 86 different companies and groups, and each company has a different reason for wanting to use it. Every feature I've implemented has been successful, and for some companies, where they weren't using the functionality, it's been moved to external products or integrated into other applications.
What do you need to improve?
Microsoft Dynamics NAV could be improved in terms of exporting income statements and balance sheets. Currently, there is an appeal, but it can only be from the last three years. I spent a while trying to improve the part of the KPI that exports the data, which already calculates the subforms or subtotals, but they couldn't divide it into different dimensions. Now they managed to cram the separate table and you can export it, but it's only in the last three years. So they could improve on that solution by exporting the chart of accounts or timelines of accounts, where you can go beyond just three years with it.
How long have I used the solution?
I have been using this product for 21 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I would say Microsoft Dynamics NAV is stable.
The SQL part requires some maintenance. From an operational point of view, you need to do some cleaning to keep it up to date. In terms of maintenance, the only maintenance you really need, from a consultant's perspective, is if you want to upgrade to a new version or if you want to implement new features from the new cumulative update. But it's not really considered maintenance, it's more of an update.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Microsoft Dynamics NAV is very easy to scale once you understand the limitations of the product. There is a slight problem if many people try to post to the ledger simultaneously. Sometimes they block you. So you have to look at the size of the company, and you can add as many companies as you want, but when you get to 250+ users, you have to start looking for a bigger product. It's significantly scalable, but there's a limit to how many users per company you should have before you start experiencing performance issues.
I specialize in manufacturing companies, but I've implemented this solution for companies of all sizes.
How is the customer service and support?
I think Microsoft's support is extremely good, but only because I used to deal directly with Microsoft's development team and I used to show up at events. From my experience it is very good. There were a few instances where they didn't get it right, but most of the time, I'd say 99% of the time, they give good advice.
Which solution did I previously use and why did I change?
From a business intelligence point of view, I connected or created cubes or analytical services from several databases, from SAP, Pascal, JD Edwards, Oracle, Cognos, Executive Viewer. For ERP, I only work with Dynamics NAV and Business Central.
How was the initial setup?
I'm considered an expert, so the initial setup was easy because I've worked with him for a long time and done a lot of deployments. Past partners still use me as a resource to fall back on if they have a problem with their solutions. For me, I find the product quite easy, but this is solely due to the experience and knowledge I have about the product.
What about the implementation team?
I implemented this solution myself.
What is my experience with pricing, setup costs, and licensing?
Cost is one of the benefits. If you don't want to do full operations and finance, the pricing model is much cheaper and is now based on a subscription per user. So if you're in the cloud, you now have an expense instead of a big CapEx. If you're local, you obviously still have to stick with the licensing model they have, but if you compare the features and functionality, in terms of the price you pay, I think it's better than other products.
My answer on pricing would be a little different depending on what country you are in, and return on investment depending on the size of the company. It has a good price internationally. I think the new model is even better priced because it's now subscription based and if you go cloud the ROI is much faster and if it's an expense you can cap it. If you take the local version, the license is still the price it used to be, so it will depend on what country you are in.
What other advice do I have?
My rating is skewed because I'm a Microsoft resource, but I rate this solution a 10 out of 10.
For those looking to implement this solution, I advise you to do your research first. Make sure the product does what you want it to. You also need to understand the limitations of the product. If you want a payroll system, it's not a payroll system. You need to know these kinds of things.
What deployment model are you using for this solution?

To go down
It's lightweight, easy to use, and has neat workflows, but reporting, integration, and data capture need improvement
Pros and cons
- "For me, the main strengths of Microsoft Dynamics NAV are its ease of use and lightness. These are its main advantages. I have used other ERPs and their architecture was a little more complex compared to the architecture of Microsoft Dynamics NAV ."
- "Any request that came from the website had to go through an electronic form that was connected to Microsoft Dynamics NAV. There was no direct data capture. This was the critical point, where customers had to create electronic forms, and this caused delays in transactions and obtaining information".
What is the most valuable?
For my customers, the most important feature of Microsoft Dynamics NAV is the workflows, including the organization of information flows. That was the main reason for the whole migration and why my customers are using Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
My clients have several business areas, and each business area is independent and uses Microsoft Dynamics NAV. It's not like one license is being used across all business units. Now my clients are trying to eliminate all of that, in particular, to eliminate all of those multiple systems and bring them together into one omnichannel.
For me, the main strengths of Microsoft Dynamics NAV are that it is easy to use and lightweight. These are its main advantages. I used other ERPs and their architecture was a bit more complex compared to Microsoft Dynamics NAV architecture. The solution is customizable and easy to use, and these are the key elements I like most about Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
What do you need to improve?
One of the main areas that my customers were concerned about was the reporting functionality of Microsoft Dynamics NAV, and this probably depends on the level of licenses the customers have. These are not complex users, and I'm not talking about millions of cases or tickets. This is a very limited number of users who felt reporting is one of the areas for improvement in the solution.
Each department purchased tools independently and there is no communication between departments, so another pain point is the integration of Microsoft Dynamics NAV with other tools. There are so many systems running, so it's not entirely Microsoft Dynamics NAV's fault why some customers are moving. It could be because previous business decisions were different than they are now.
Another pain point or area for improvement was that any request coming from the website had to go through an electronic form which was then connected to Microsoft Dynamics NAV. There was no direct data capture. This was the pain point where customers had to create electronic forms and this caused delays in transactions and getting information. I'm not sure if the layout was wrong so I can't comment on that, but this is one of the weaknesses or areas for improvement in Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I find Microsoft Dynamics NAV stable. It's fluid and stable enough for the loads my customers use. I cannot comment beyond that. That's one hundred and fifty to twenty thousand tickets a year, and based on that volume, the solution is stable. There's no problem with that.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Microsoft Dynamics NAV is scalable. I like. It's light and fast enough. I don't know why some customers are switching. They can upgrade Microsoft Dynamics NAV or modify certain elements if they can and use it instead of switching to another solution.
How is the customer service and support?
My customers had no technical issues and their usage was limited as well, so they didn't contact the Microsoft Dynamics NAV support team. Depending on your usage, ticket collection or anything flow related, there were no issues.
How was the initial setup?
I haven't done a setup for Microsoft Dynamics NAV before. I only worked on my existing projects, but I didn't configure the solution, so I don't have feedback on how easy or complex the setup is.
What other solutions have I evaluated?
We don't compare Microsoft Dynamics NAV to other ERP systems. What we are testing is a business booking tool that will replace Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
What other advice do I have?
I have experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV, but not with IFS.
I'm currently doing a project with Microsoft Dynamics NAV. I'm a consultant working on migration tools. For example, in 2011 and 2015 I worked on migration projects and migrated to new platforms.
I currently have less than twenty-five Microsoft Dynamics NAV users.
I don't know what my clients' maintenance fees are. The reasons they switched to a different solution have nothing to do with the product, with Microsoft Dynamics NAV. It's a change in the business model. The price of the product is not the reason why customers are switching, for example one was buying a house and now they are all coming together and buying a solution.
I would give Microsoft Dynamics NAV a score of six based on my exposure to it and what I've learned from end users and its limitations.
My company is a Microsoft partner.

Highly customizable, very stable and offers easy configuration
Pros and cons
- "The initial setup is quite simple."
- "It would be nice if the onboarding process was easier."
What is our main use case?
We are dedicated to the management of pension funds. Our main function consists of incorporating customers, managing pension funds and sending customer pensions when they meet the established criteria for disbursement. The pension fund management process involves collecting monthly pension contributions from customers and investing the asset to generate additional value for our customers and this is where MS Navision comes into play.
Essentially we use MS Navision as our backendERPsystem used to manage all records and any requests from customers. However, we use a different system in managing our investment registration process.
Invariably, there is a handshake between our MS NAV system and the investment solution that helps create the pooling process and fund pricing.
How has this helped my organization?
It helps automate the management and processing of customer funds.
What is the most valuable?
One of the reasons NAV suited us best was that it was customizable. Not all features are ready to use.
The initial setup is quite simple.
What do you need to improve?
We are actively looking to migrate to Business Central by the end of the year. This is because support for the fix would have ended. MS Business Central is Microsoft's replacement for MS NAV, which is expected to reach its end of life this year.
It would be nice if the onboarding process was a lot easier.
I see no reason why Microsoft can't use a standard Microsoft development environment to develop it. Makes it difficult for my development team to create an add-on module using another C/side development language
How long have I used the solution?
We have been using NAV for over 10 years. We even upgraded from the 2015 model to the 2017 model. We've been using the product for a long time.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is quite stable. We have no complaints. there are no errors or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. it's trustable
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The product is quite scalable. If a company wants to expand it, it can.
How is the customer service and technical support?
Tech support has been good over time. However, Microsoft will end support in June of this year, so we need to move away from the product.
How was the initial setup?
There are two things to keep in mind with the initial setup. Installation is different from customization. Installing the NAV is quite easy, however as a customer we have to get a Microsoft partner to help us build the models we want to have on it, which incurs additional costs. That said, in terms of installation, it's pretty straightforward.
To make the solution fit our environment, it took us six months to implement a fully functional solution.
What about the implementation team?
We need assistance from a Microsoft partner to help us customize certain templates.
What is my experience with pricing, setup costs, and licensing?
There are additional costs involved due to the fact that you need Microsoft partners to help build specific modules that are not off-the-shelf.
What other advice do I have?
Microsoft will stop supporting NAV this year, so we plan to move to Business Central. We hope it has good technical support and is also easy to use. The solution will likely be similar, so we don't need a lot of training on the new system before or after the migration.
While I normally recommend the solution to other organizations, the issue at the moment is that the product is no longer supported by the OEM.
I would suggest that organizations planning to migrate to MS NAV should focus on the MS Business core.
Overall I would rate the solution an 8 out of 10.

A great dashboard experience that's very familiar to Office users
Pros and cons
- "The solution's integrations and interface are very good."
- "The solution could include the retail tool in the native version."
What is our main use case?
Our company is a Microsoft partner and we sell the solution to customers.
What is the most valuable?
Power apps are very good for developers.
The integrations and interface of the solution are very good. Many options are included such as different IPs, APIS and Azure SQL Database. You can interact with portable machines and other products. This makes things easier for developers and saves time.
The control panel is very easy to use and the best we've seen in ERPs. You can see KPS, sales and customers in a virtual front desk. With one click, you see what you need because Power AI sends everything to the dashboard.
Changed information in Excel or another integrated tool is automatically sent to the solution.
What do you need to improve?
The solution could include the retail tool in the native version. It is currently sold as a separate product.
How long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution for two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is the most stable enterprise ERP available. Changes to development, processes, and embedded applications do not affect stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable.
How is the customer service and support?
Technical support is good and there are three levels available. At level one, customers work directly with support to resolve issues. At level two, we step in to help customers. For level three, we determine a bug or issue is difficult and call Microsoft directly for assistance.
How was the initial setup?
Setup and implementation are good. Implementations take a little time because customers define the process and sometimes struggle with it. Mexico also has a few different laws and tropical sized laws, so the process takes time.
Full implementation takes about four months, which is short compared to other ERPs that can take eight months to a year.
I rate the setup a nine out of ten.
What about the implementation team?
We implement the solution for customers.
At the beginning, we have three to five consultants on staff. One or two consultants join the team for cross-deployment in call centers.
What was our ROI?
It will take at least six months from the initial investment to start seeing the ROI. It really depends on the customer's environment and how much they automate through the solution around inventory, product, and sales.
What is my experience with pricing, setup costs, and licensing?
The per-user price of $100 per month is better than the competition.
Much of the cost of an ERP is in the implementation. The solution takes less time to implement than the competition, saving costs.
For example, your solution takes about five months to implement, but a competitive tool could take anywhere from eight months to a year. This doubles your cost.
What other solutions have I evaluated?
The solution is a nice smaller but powerful ERP. It's not expensive like Oracle Business Suite. The price is good for the customer and the monthly price is good for the users. The solution includes tools for manufacturing, retail, finance and warehouse.
The solution's biggest competitor is Oracle Business Suite, which is more expensive and uses products unfamiliar to the typical Office user.
What other advice do I have?
The solution is easy to use. The user experience is similar to other Microsoft products like Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Power AI. It's much easier to use than Oracle, which has different products and uses colors.
I rate the solution a nine out of ten.
What deployment model are you using for this solution?
public cloud
If it's a public cloud, a private cloud or a hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Reliable solution, but not scalable enough for a company with millions of transactions
Pros and cons
- "It's pretty reliable and there's a good local provider that can tailor the solution for tax issues."
- "For a large company like ours, with millions of transactions, scalability is not enough."
What is our main use case?
We use this solution for financial purposes. We use a 2020 version.
The solution is implemented on site.
There are about 10 people using this solution in my organization.
What is the most valuable?
It is quite reliable and there is a good local provider who can tailor the solution for tax issues.
This solution can be used in combination with Microsoft Office 365 with cloud version.
What do you need to improve?
We want to use this solution for our entire production company. We want to expand into other ERP functions, but it's not a good solution for manufacturing companies.
I would like to see some quality control and quality assurance. It's very difficult to find something other than SAP, so we have to find a special solution.
How long have I used the solution?
I've been working with the solution for 18 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It's pretty stable. We have no problems with bugs.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
For a large company like ours, with millions of transactions, scalability is not enough. For example, we were thinking of going to Dynamics for multiple transactions, MPS and MRP, but that's not enough. It is scalable, but only up to a point.
How is the customer service and support?
We have technical support through our partner, but the solution provided by Microsoft is stable. We always have problems with local plugins, which are needed for local taxes. Microsoft is making a package for Central Europe, which must comply with the tax laws of Central European countries. Our local provider is creating yet another plugin to address these local tax issues. There are several problems, especially with speed.
Which solution did I previously use and why did I change?
We also use a solution called Glovia. Their financial solution was not very good for Czech taxes and there was no support for Czech taxes, so we had to cut them. Now, we have two systems, but we only want to use one. We don't know if Business Central can be expanded or if something else will need to be implemented.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is pretty easy. The deployment lasted six months.
We implemented it along with our current ERP system, which was not good for the financial system. We analyze the structure and which functions to transfer to Microsoft.
The function is for bank connections. If you install just the finance part, it's pretty straightforward. You have a chart of accounts, you set up the connection to the ERP or the other software, and you set up the connections for the next processes, which use Microsoft data. It then connects to data warehouses for Power BI or other reporting platforms. Of course, the biggest problem is that 80% of the time involves evaluation.
Bigger issues are easy to set up, but little things slow down the perfect process.
We need two people for the implementation: one person from IT and one from finance. It is not difficult to maintain the solution.
What is my experience with pricing, setup costs, and licensing?
The license changes every year. Sometimes it's for fixed users and sometimes it's for concurrent users.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate the solution a seven out of ten.
My advice is to check the local tax solution and make sure it covers material flow for production needs like ordering, planning, sales and purchasing.
We need to find a provider that is good support. The right consultant and support is very essential.

It is highly flexible and functional but audit control needs to be improved
Pros and cons
- "I found the flexibility very valuable. It's very flexible and, at least for us, it's been effective. It's also very functional."
- "Some of the control aspects, such as auditing, can definitely be improved. For example, auditing is not very easy and user permissions are complicated."
What is our main use case?
Microsoft Dynamics NAV is used for our internal financial services. It is the main financial application for us. We use it as our ERP software.
What is the most valuable?
I have found flexibility to be very valuable. It's very flexible and, at least for us, it's been effective. It's also very functional.
A regular consultant will be able to do much more than that with some of the other platforms. With SAP, you may need an expert consultant for each module. You won't find a person who is an expert in multiple modules and can do a lot of work easily. This is not the case with Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
Therefore, it is cost-effective in terms of price and maintenance as well. You get features that are very useful and the app itself is very flexible.
It is stable and scalable with small to medium load requirements.
What do you need to improve?
Some of the control aspects like auditing can definitely be improved. For example, auditing is not very easy and user permissions are complicated.
Also, material management is somewhat limited.
For now, I definitely want them to extend and make the audit trail easy to manage.
Part of the code needs to be optimized for better performance.
How long have I used the solution?
I've been using it for 10 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I think we have around 1000 NAV users with a peak load of around 400-500 users. With that load, our systems are really stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is being used in multiple use cases whether in small, medium or large organizations. For flexibility, it works in many of the use cases, but in large organizations where better structure, high scalability and performance is required, SAP has a better profile.
How is the customer service and technical support?
We work closely with technical support. I'm satisfied, but I won't say it's great, it's just good. They are committed to us, but there are times when we don't get the solution we are looking for, and at other times it takes time. Overall, the best part is that they are easily accessible and supportive.
What is my experience with pricing, setup costs, and licensing?
I think the price is the best; It's profitable for sure.
What other advice do I have?
We used SAP in my previous organization and in this organization we are on Microsoft Dynamics NAV. SAP is very structured and sometimes it doesn't allow you to customize it the way you would like. However, Microsoft Dynamics NAV provides some flexibility.
I think it's a decent product to evaluate. If you have use cases with small to medium load requirements, Microsoft Dynamics NAV is a good choice. You can also make other settings with it.
However, if you have a heavy load of 1000 or more than 1000 users, then you definitely need to look to a more enterprise solution like SAP or AX.
With Microsoft Dynamics NAV, material management is somewhat limited. So if you're a small organization and you have the resources to manage these types of things, this solution is cost-effective.
On a scale of one to ten, I would rate Microsoft Dynamics NAV a seven.

Allows us to centralize all our information on the same platform
Pros and cons
- "The most important feature of Microsoft Dynamics NAV is that it allows us to centralize all of our information so we don't have to rely on any other software outside of Microsoft."
- “I think Microsoft should improve the process of how the user decides on a business workflow. For example, there might be some sort of drag-and-drop interface that lets us decide for ourselves how to develop business workflows that suit our purpose. ."
What is our main use case?
In our market, we use most of Microsoft Dynamics NAV modules for manufacturing consulting and implementation, which is the main demand of our customers right now. However, we also use other ERPs like SAP, Odoo (open source software) and we also have some experience with Oracle NetSuite. Also, we do a lot of integrations with SAP, but currently we don't use SAP very much.
How has this helped my organization?
One of the ways that Microsoft Dynamics NAV has helped our business is that it allows us to centralize our information on one platform.
What is the most valuable?
The most important feature of Microsoft Dynamics NAV is that it allows us to centralize all our information so that we don't depend on any other software outside of Microsoft.
What do you need to improve?
I think Microsoft should improve the process of how the user decides on a business workflow. For example, there might be some sort of drag-and-drop interface that lets us decide for ourselves how to develop business workflows that suit our purpose.
But it's not just about the interface. We are often faced with multi-level workflows, depending on the department or person responsible, and there is not enough flexibility in how we need to make certain adjustments. Our solution was to do custom development in conjunction with Dynamics NAV to allow us to refine the workflows.
In part due to the Dynamics NAV pricing structure, we have a plan to migrate to Dynamics 365 Business Central, essentially moving it to the cloud version. If we compare Dynamics 365 Business Central with other competitors like SAP or NetSuite, the price is neither too high nor too low. However, for our own brand, I think Dynamics NAV is good enough for us now.
How long have I used the solution?
I've been using Microsoft Dynamics NAV for over four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I think it's stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's scalable in some ways, but not so much in others. Which is good, because now a lot of people just want a low-cost, off-the-shelf platform.
How is the customer service and support?
We use third-party support, not directly from the Microsoft team.
What is my experience with pricing, setup costs, and licensing?
The on-premises model of Dynamics NAV is very expensive, hence our plan to move to Dynamics 365 Business Central, which seems to be better suited to our needs in terms of price. Compared to the competition, the cloud version of Dynamics falls somewhere in the middle; neither too high nor too low.
What other advice do I have?
We are Microsoft partners and customers and for others interested in Dynamics NAV, I advise that if you are looking for a central platform to work on, look into Microsoft 365, Office 365, etc., and other Microsoft products together. and innovate. Integrate and collect all information across your systems.
For us, the day may be coming to move to Dynamics 365 Business Central, and if you want to centralize all your data on one platform in the future, I also recommend it.
I would rate Microsoft Dynamics NAV an eight out of ten.
What deployment model are you using for this solution?

How was the initial setup?
Installing Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is easy. You can configure Teams and the other apps in the suite to suit your own needs.
What was our ROI?
I have not received a return on investment with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
What is my experience with pricing, setup costs, and licensing?
The solution is in the cloud and they provide 50 gigabytes of free space on your
Microsoft unit. The reason for this is that Microsoft requires you to upgrade all your systems to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central to use the cloud effectively. This means that if you're using a different Microsoft version for a specific purpose that doesn't require this solution, it can be frustrating having to spend money to upgrade to this solution just to sync to the cloud. Also, even if you purchase Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, there may still be issues with synchronizing between on-premises and cloud clients. This can be especially frustrating as cloud storage isn't free and can be difficult to access even after purchase.
I rate the price of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central a six out of ten.
What other advice do I have?
I was considering abandoning Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and moving to another platform. It's very difficult to maintain.
To use the cloud effectively, you may need to upgrade all of your company's platforms to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Even if some of your current platforms work fine without Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, you may need to spend additional money to upgrade to this solution. It is difficult to synchronize the local and cloud versions of this solution.
IrateMicrosoft Dynamics 365 Business Central with a seven out of ten.
What deployment model are you using for this solution?
public cloud
